Artist Statement

Parul Naresh is a visual artist, textile designer and educator who advocates and practices sustainable art and slow fashion. With a meditative approach to art making, she derives inspiration from her love for nature by highlighting its beauty and perseverance in her work. Her ink drawings are made on paper often with a wash of either watercolors, India ink or coffee and the objects are drawn with pen. The mark making represents the subject’s innate texture and her own subconscious interpretations of it made during nature walks. Each drawing, with many layers of ink and marks varying the values of gray and creating depth, tells a story of her rendezvous with nature and the mysterious ways it continues to inspire her. She enjoys experimenting with renewable resources such as earth pigments and plant-based dyes. In addition to creating mixed media art, Parul's master’s degree and her work of more than a decade is focused on sustainability in textile industry and preservation of rapidly diminishing hand weaving communities. She prides in putting environmental awareness at the forefront of her work with a strong belief in utilization of natural renewable resources.
